I choose to analyse an extract from NME and Q where I found that both of the extracts were more formal then I thought my magazine should be. I thought that because the extract were not a question and answer based the extract lost the connection to what the band. It also I thought is to formal in the language and doesnt contact with my target audinece who I think would rather have the language be informal
I met ‘Rob the Rich’ for the first time after seeing them at one of their gigs back last August. As I waited for what I thought was going to be another typical indie/rock band, my eyes widen with surprise as the first song played. The energy of the room suddenly changed with the roar of the crowd and the atmosphere illuminating off the stage. ‘Rob the Rich’s’ new fresh sound was different, clever and they owned it unlike any other band around. As I told everyone I knew about this new fresh band it wasn’t until I sat down with boys, one nippy winters night at ‘The Prince Albert’ in Brighton the machines and witty minds of the boys came out.
IN: When did the band get started?
RTR: Well the band started about three or four years ago with
just Sam and Rich, who met in college, but it didn’t really
get out the ground until late 2007 when Adam, Harry and
John joined.
IN: When did the band get to where it is today with the
touring and having a single under your bend and a new
one on the way?
RTR: Well we waited for something to happen for ages but
realized when nothing was happening that we had to do
something ourselves by getting gigs ect. It has been
really slow but its all a one step at a time process. You
gotta start small and then things get bigger and bigger
like fan bases and getting reviews.
IN: When advice would you give to musicians who are just
getting started in the music business?
RTR: Adam: Don’t bother! Haha no really erm… just keep
gigging and writing.
IN: So I’m guessing that all you guys write all your own songs
then. Who is the main writer?
RTR: Sam…… he wrote ‘Tiger’ but we all co-write.
IN: Sam, what did you write ‘Tiger’ about?
RTR: Sam: Oh I wrote it about an argument I had.
IN: If Sam is the main writer of the band, who is the main
person who drives the band?
RTR: Haha well legally Adam in the driver because he has the
car…. but really we all drive each other. For the tour we
all had our little job like Rich was the press man and he
had his own press room with a hat and John was head of
art. We really just pull each other along and try and have
fun while doing it.
IN: So on a different note, who is the funniest guy in the band?
RTR: Sam: We all I guess are funny. We love to quote movie and
stuff like ‘Peep Show,’ ‘Anchorman’ and ‘Dumb and
Dumber.’
Adam: (Interrupting) Rich! Rich by far is the funniest!
Sam: Haha actually yeah he is. Classic Rich is loosing
something and finding it in his pocket. Haha its
always in his pocket.
IN: You say you guys quote films ect. Do you have any of your
own catch phrases or funny game you made up?
RTR: Rich’s is ‘Boa Boa Hello,’ everything starts and ends in
‘Boa Boa Hello.’ Apart from that we generally just love
taking the piss out of everything.
IN: Was the best part of touring?
RTR: Seeing how many fans we had in different places and seeing new
people and parts of the country we wouldn’t normally see.
IN: Have you guys always wanted to be musicians?
RTR: Rich: No I wanted to be a Astronaut but you know after going to the
moon I thought I would learn how to play the bass guitar. On
the way home I thought ‘Hmmm I’ve done my dream maybe I
try and be a musician/ rock star when I get back to earth.
IN: Where do you guys see yourselves as a band in the next 5 years.
RTR: Well ideally we want to be making a living out of music and get
signed. Gig more. Oh and Rich wants to go back to the moon.
IN: So then what’s the next step for the band?
RTR: Well we have a new single coming out in February and we hopefully
will get to be a support act for someone.
IN: What’s the hardest part about being in the music business?
RTR: Really, it’s the not knowing. You don’t know what’s going to happen
next and you can really get your hopes up because someone
important said they were going to be there and they didn’t show. Its
just a really up and down business.
IN: This is the last question so I hope you’re ready. If you guys could
support any band who would it be?
RTR: We would love to support the ‘Macabees’ or if you were really
thinking big we would love to support a band like ‘Kings of Leon.’
