Blog 6 - Photos

These first to frames are for the front cover. The frames are of the band I have written my article about which is 'Rob the Rich'. I am using the second photo out of theses two because in the first one the three at the back are either not looking in the right place or their body is in the wrong precision. I have chosen the second photo because you can see all the band member equally and they are all in the right precision. The frame is the second picture is also better because it is more centered.

I took this photo outside the 'Prince Albert' in the tunnel underneath Brighton Station. I choice this because i thought it would make the front cover more appealing because it wasn't in a studio space so it would be more relative to the my target audience.

I told the boys to wear what they wanted to wear because it shown the band as they actually were on a everyday bases. They weren't wearing any make up either. I wouldn't my target audience to think that people in a band weren't just people in a band but were just like everyone else. I also wanted to grab my target audiences attention because of the fact that the front cover would reflect the article because just like the front cover the article is very stripped.

On this front cover I didn't just want just want boring face shoots. I wanted to mix it up a bit so instead of having their heads all in a row I decided I would have their heads one after the other with one facing front then the next facing to the side (the head to the side happens twice.) By having their faces looking towards and away from the camera it makes the cover eye-catching because it is different meaning more readings will pick it up.

These photos are for the double page spread. The costume are the same as they are in the front cover picture. I took these photos in the 'Prince Albert' where they performed one night. This is the same as it is at any of their gigs. This gives the reader a real look at what one of 'Rob the Rich's' gigs would be like and if you are a music fanatic then it will want you to go to one of their gigs.

I choice the first photo because it shows a clear picture of the whole band in action where the second photo doesn't show all the band members clearly and has a member of the audience in the way.

These two photos are for the contents page. I choice to take them in the same place as I took the cover photo. I decided this because the place I took the cover photo is quite indie and edge which will appeal to my target audience. Again the costumes are the same as the other photo apart from three of the band members now have cloths on. I did this to make a bit more of a contrast between colours so wasn't just white, grey, blue.
Even though I love the first frame I couldn't use it because John's leg ( last on the right) so I
choice the second because it was take as a natural shoot. As them just being them. I thought this would be better because it would put together my over all idea of the band just being like everyone else. This will relate more to my target audience because they will be able to relate to the indie and fun side of the band member.

Blog 5 - Fonts

I thought that for the article and the contents page I would use a similar font because then there would be a overall look and link to the magazine and also the reader will not be confused or be over powered by there being to many font which would make the magazine look to busy.

I decided between two fonts for the main article in my double page spread. It is between 'Justus' and 'Geo Sans Light'. I choose these font because of there difference because 'Justus' is a serif typeface and 'Geo Sans Light' is a sans serfic typeface. If I made the main article a sans serfic typeface it will make my article less up tight, where if the main article is in a serif typeface it will make the article to busy and upper class and that will not suit my target audience so for my main article I have decided to use 'Geo Sans Light.'
Instead for the 'Justus' font I have decided that I will use it for headings on the contents pages because it will bring focus to headings and catch more attention to important pieces of text. I am also going to use it for the pull quote in the double page spread because of how eye catching it is.

I am using old school font because it links in with my target audience because most of them are in the age of 16-25 so will still be at college or at Uni. These sort of fonts will be most relatable to my target audience.

I choose to use this font for my front cover. I used this font for headings because is a font that can be four different things, as you see on the image to the left. I asked a few of my target audience to see if they preferred this font for the headings then the 'Varsity' font and they said they preferred this one because it was more basic. This makes it clearer and easier to read.

I used the 'Varsity' font for the logo of 'IN' for my magazine and for the heading of 'Rob the Rich.' I chose it for my logo because its bold and in a red it really pops on the page. It also looks good with a white back drop. I chose it for the main heading because of 'Rob the Rich' because it links in with the logo but because it is smaller it doesn't take the eye away from the logo. Different colour also help this. I asked a number of my target audience what they thought of this idea and they thought that the link would make the front cover more appealing because it would make the main subject of the issue relate and be similar to the logo/magazine.

Blog 4 - Flat Plan

This is the flat plan for my front cover. I have choosen a picture of 'Rob the Rich' as my front cover because my double page spread it about them. For the photo I want it to be eye-catching and make my target audienece to be drawn towards the differnce between this photo on a front cover to any other magazine. To do this I look at 'NME' and 'Q' magazines and I got the idea that the photo should be a long head shot of all the band members with the shot going towards the right side. I have decided that the boys are going to be lined up one after the other, as shown in the picture, with their heads at different angles, shown be the arrows. The down arrows shows that the person will be looking forward and the arrow pointing to the left shows that the person head will be facing the left. I also want Adam to be at the front of the shot because he is the lead singer. I also want Sam to follow because he is the backing vocalist and lead guitarist but after Sam I want it to go in high order. With Rich, the tallest at the end. I have done this so that the audience knows that Adam is the lead singer and also because if the highs are a bit different it will be more interesting for the audience to look at. I think that because the photo is different and kwerky my target audience will be more drawn to it.

This also intertwines with the fact that my magazine is going to be called 'IN' because it is going to stand for the magzine being INdie, INdervisial and IN for it will be the thing to read. This is to show what the magazine is about and why my target audinece will want to read it, it also is because my target audinece are all of these things. My logo of 'IN' is going to be in a tone that is a bit lighter then blood red. It is going to be to the left side of the page because then it will not get in the the way of the faces of the band memebers. It going to be the biggest bit of writing on the page and also will have more statement by its boldness to show that it is a logo. The logo will also cross over to some of the band memebers faces to show the link.

The heading of 'Rob the Rich' is used in the font of 'Varsity' this font will make the main heading of 'Rob the Rich' stand out to the rest of the page. This is good because 'Rob the Rich are the main subject of the article of this issue of the magazine. I am also going to put this heading in a deep, blood like red. This will contrast to the sun tinted colour of the front cover image. The writing of this heading is going to be in captilals apart from the 'The' in 'Rob the Rich.'

The sub-heading are going to be of other artists that will feature in the magazine, they will be put above the main heading. Theses sub-headings will consist of five different up and coming artists. Theses sub-headings will be in black but in differnt coloured boxes, all turnet white and a pastal blue. Theses be will in lines above eachother.

The contents page of my magazine hopefully will have two photos on the page. One of 'Rob the Rich' and one of one of the up and coming artists like 'Zoe Brownrig'. The photo of 'Rob the Rich will be at the bottom left coner of the page and the photo of the up and coming artist will be at the top right side of the magazine. This will be below the title of the contects page which is called 'Contents,' this will be at the top left hand coner of the page. This will also be bigger then the other fonts of the page so that it catches the readers attention and pops out on the page. Underneath the main title heading there is going to be the logo of the magazine 'IN,' this is going to be under the 'C' of 'Contents'. By having the logo underneath the title heading it reminders the readers what magazine they are reading and links the front cover and the contents pages together. The bullet points of what the magazine consists of are going to be mostly on the right side of the page. These are because to be in the sans-serif font and there are going to be some of the main events in bigger fonts. This is so the main events of the magazine jump out to the aundience.

The double page spread is going to be quite simple. The font of the article is going to be in a serif font with the artcle in a colume on the right hand side of the right page of the double page spread. Their is going to be a photograph of 'Rob the Rich,' who the article is about, that will cover about 3/4 of the double page. There will be a a pull quote in the middle of the article to draw the readers attension to the article and make them want to read it. The title of the article 'Rob the Rich' is going to be in a college font and will be surrounded but different coloured dots that are orange , blue and yellow. I am doing this because it is the band logo and it will link the article more to the band and help the readers relate to it.
